Mary Philpott

Artopia Gallery & Framing carries a wide selection of Mary's work in sculpture, tiles and vases.

"The flora and fauna of the field and forest are inspirations for my work: The tangling of vines on an oak tree or the stems and leaves in the flower bed; the deer or hares that quietly tread in the garden silently grazing before having a fright and leaping away to gain cover; or the fox who sits quietly amongst the flora, admiring the hare that he is supposed to hunt.

These flora and fauna inspire the carvings on my tile work and vessels, where the clay becomes a canvas for an imagined world, with jewel like deep glazes that suggest a moment in time out of a children's storybook from a century or more past."
